| Tarpon River |
Tarpon River is located on the Southwest edge of Fort Lauderdale’s Central Business District. It is bounded on the North and West by the New River, on the South by Davie Blvd, on the East by Andrews Ave., and is bisected by the Tarpon River (hence its name). Much of the neighborhood is heavily canopied with old trees and lush vegetation, making it an oasis in the middle of the City.
Parts of Tarpon River were included in the original City of Fort Lauderdale when it was first incorporated in 1911. An ideal place to live for people who work and play downtown, it is across the river from the Performing Arts Center, the Science Museum and the Entertainment District. The riverfront east of 4th Ave. is being redeveloped with waterfront condominiums and the addition of the ‘River Walk’ which offers a reliable mix of the arts, shopping, dining, and nightlife on the south side of the New River.
The area south of the river and west of 4th Ave. contains a mix of single family homes and townhouses plus the River Reach condominium community. Some of the homes date to the 1920's and have been restored; most date from the 1950's and 1960's. |
